Wilderness Travellers collects information about hiking, paddling and winter routes: where they are, which season to go in, how hard they are, how to reach the start and what you will want in your pack.

We are not a tour operator. We do not put groups together, we do not organise trips and we do not sell places on them. Everything here is written for people going under their own steam who want to understand a route before they set out, not once they are already there.

The descriptions are qualitative, without exact distances and elevations: the figures for one and the same route disagree between sources, and trail conditions and access rules change from season to season. So we describe the character of a route and what you need to check before leaving.

The gear checklist is a reference. It rebuilds itself for the route type and the season, but it does not replace common sense and experience: for any particular trip the list always needs adjusting.
